Constructing The Hierarchy Chair

The Hierarchy Chair sculpture is constructed on a backbone of 50x50mm box metal.  The sculpture outline consists of multiple shapes formed from 1.6mm sheet metal that has been cut, formed and wielded onto the backbone. The more intregit shapes where formed using cardboard stencils as a template.

The final finish was achieved using a controlled rust coating.

Plasma cutting components from sheet metal
Individual hand folding of each component, small and large.
Welding components onto frame using MIG Welding.
Grinding the excess weld from the chair edges to enable a uniform and clean finish.
Hand filing for an accurate finish
Applying the controlled rust coating
